Staying in Leinster as long as possible was one of Laois manager John Sugrue's goals at the start of the year.

The O'Moore County have achieved that goal as they are one of two teams left standing in the province as they prepare to face Dublin in this year's Leinster final.

In a war of attrition, they ground down a resolute Carlow side to book their place in the decider and Sugrue admitted to the Leinster Express that they might as well go for it now that they are there.

"We've got another game in Leinster. We wanted to stay in Leinster as long as we could. We'll just go hard at it. That is the scenario that we are faced with," said Sugrue.

"Guys who had standout performances have been in very good form all year, so hopefully they will carry that into a Leinster final. They will need too."
