Cavan ladies manager Aidan McCabe says he's confident his team can overcome Clare in Sunday's National League Division 2 semi-final at Birr.

The Breffni women finished top of the league table after winning five of their seven round games but will need to win the league final in order to achieve promotion to Division 1.

Speaking to The Anglo-Celt this week, McCabe says he has been pleased with his players' performances to date but knows that they'll need another big effort against the in-form Banner ladies this weekend.

"We beat them in round two of the league on February 5 up in Templeport. We were down by two at half-time and we beat them by two points," said the manager.

"How much of a bearing a game on February 5 in those conditions will have on a game on April 23, it's hard to know.

"Whoever wins on Sunday, and hopefully it's us and I've every bit of confidence in us, will have a good hard 60 minutes of football behind them. It will take a good performance and I know we have the capability to do that."

Throw-in at Birr on Sunday is at 2.45pm.
