Former Mayo ladies football star Fiona McHale has been appointed as coach to the Claremorris men's senior football team.
McHale will work alongside manager Niall Heffernan and fellow coach Norman O'Brien in the coming year. She previously managed UL's O'Connor Cup team and was one of 12 Carnacon players who left the Mayo panel this year over player welfare issues.
McHale continues the growing trend of women breaking new ground in non-playing roles in men's GAA, with former Wexford camogie goalkeeper Mags D'Arcy having held a coaching role with the county's senior hurlers this year.
