I'm fed up of this about Tommy Walsh "should have been sent" etc etc. He is a top class hurler and just because some counties don't have a player like him doesn't mean they should hate him.

When the history of this period of the game is written, Tommy will be one of the greatest ever to swig a stick in Croke Park

Tommy Walsh is the greatest all round hurler of all time without a doubt. Well time counties like my own stopped whenging about him being dirty and gave him the credit he deserves. He will never be remembered as a dirty hurler but has a fair claim to the greatest ever.

its not what you do its what you get away with in hurling, tommy walsh is the best half back ive seen in many years, tough great fielder of the ball he has it all, this is a mans game people who want players sent off will just ruin hurling, keep it hard and tough and fair let referees let the game go.

I'm not diputing the fact that he's a great player and i don't hate him, just i can't understand how he gets away with so much and was disaapointed he got MOTM in a game in which he should have been sent off yet again this time breaking a hurl off a player. I don't agree that there's anything manly about pulling across a player with a hurl, in fact i would consider it cowardly. Are we teaching young players that it's ok to blatantly pull across a player and that it's manly? Last year apparently it was the media's fault but he'll let kilkenny down one of these days when justice is finally served and he gets the line.

gahfan - there is nothing cowardly about tommy walsh - he is a tough fair sportsman. sure he play's it tough, but thats what hurling is about. He got booked for a late pull on sunday - so what. he dived in to play the ball, miss it and broke the hurl of the galway lad's leg - so what. it wasn't dirty - it was late.. he didn't pull across an a player off the ball with his hurl - not like in another game over the weekend - which you might be familiar with aghfan Also, especially last year he was being targeted before games even started i.e. all ireland semi final 2009, all ireland 2008, whats he supposed to do. let it happen, walk away, thats not tommy, and thats not what real competitive sports men do. in most cases his marking men alot greater in size weight etc - he has to stand up for himself. while your talking about dirty cowardly strokes - i'd din't see you or too many more coming on here to talk about the sportmanship tommy showed in last years all ireland final - when Tommy's ( his head for that matter) was on the end of the worst stroke i have seen in years (Thank God). He got straight up on his feet, shook him self off, and got on with it. another player would have rolled around - soccer style - looking to get his opponent sent off - especially with a all ireland final in the melting pot. Not tommy, he only wanted to get on with the game and play tough fair hurling. I'm not saying his a angel, nor do i want him to be- let him get on with what he does best - playing hurling!!!!! So gahfan, stop trying to raise a issue that doesn't exist,

Tommy plays on the edge....that's his style. I would not say he is a dirty player. He is a consistently high performer for Kilkenny. I would say that most of the people who complain about him would love to have him playing for them. Good luck with the " drive for 5 ". I can't see who is going to stop you at this stage.

i,m on to disagree with alot of what people say bout tommy walsh.he has been involvd in afew incidents but more than often he gets on with his hurling and usually he ends up being the leader of k/kenny.can,t see them being beatn either.jus like to ask k/kenny people how they feel bout eddie brennan and what he did to ollie canning,i thought it was worse and more dangerous than what walsh did.it has becme a serious problem this year with fellas trying to grab a faceguard and pull it off an opponents head.

Its amazing the attention he attracts. Hes hated because we love him so much (similar to the Rock when he was playing for COrk.
Hes hated because he is a vital inspirational player for us. When he cleans out his man and clears the ball it gives the players and fans a lift.
He does no better or worse than most good half backs. You want to talk about dirty hurling, have a look at what each and every on of the Tipp defenders did to John Mullane in the semi final. Shocking what that lad puts up with.
