Kenny gets four weeks
August 21, 2008
Cork hurler Tom Kenny has been hit with a four-week ban following the GAA's investigation into his altercation with Kilkenny captain James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick earlier this month.
Video footage from the All-Ireland SHC semi-final between Cork and Kilkenny at Croke Park showed Kenny's hurley making contact with Fitzpatrick's midsection in the closing stages of the All-Ireland Champions' nine-point win over the Rebels.
The injury sustained resulted in the Cat skipper having to leave the playing field on a stretcher and after investigating the incident the Central Competitions Control Committee (CCCC) hit Kenny with a month's ban last night (Wednesday)
The suspension means that the Grenagh clubman will miss the first game of Cork's All-Ireland SHC campaign in 2009.
Incidentally, in the days after the semi-final Kenny apologised for his acts and the Kilkenny camp had asked no action to be taken over the incident by the GAA.
