Cody: 'Three-in-a-row never crossed my mind'

Brian Cody
Brian Cody claimed the prospect of leading Kilkenny to a three-in-a-row of All-Ireland hurling successes never entered his thoughts in the immediate aftermath of last Sunday's semi-final win over Cork. "The three-in-a-row never crossed my mind, not for a second. All I thought of was that we were in the All-Ireland final," said Cody, who has now guided the Cats to eight All-Ireland finals in 10 years. He continued: "It is all about the feeling at the end of the game when you have won. Cork's feeling right now is horrendous. Ours is terrific. That is what the next day is about - trying to get that winning feeling again. "All the time and effort put into this is worth that one magical moment. You could not buy that feeling, not at any price. No money can buy the way these guys feel towards the game, the jersey, wanting to be winners." Kilkenny's performance against Cork has since been recognised as one of the finest of the Cody era, but the James Stephens clubman was quick to point out that there was no silverware handed out afterwards. "We have nothing won this year. We have shown ourselves to be genuine, decent competitors. We took on and beat a very, very competitive Cork team and we played very well. "We won the game and we have put ourselves into the game that we have been looking at all year, the All-Ireland final. The final is everything. I am browned off saying that. "To be part of All-Ireland final day is big. To win it is what everyone's year in hurling is all about. We have given ourselves the opportunity to do that."
