Brennan calls for reappraisal of Leinster SHC

August 14, 2008
Following Kilkenny's All-Ireland semi-final drubbing of Cork at the weekend, GAA president Nicky Brennan has called for a reappraisal into the Leinster Senior Hurling Championship. Both Galway and Antrim have been keen to join in with the Leinster province and a Special Congress in October will decide whether or not the respective Connacht and Ulster Champions can do so. Speaking at Wednesday's Vodafone Player of the Month awards, Brennan indicated that Kilkenny's dominance may have people wanting to review the current state of hurling in the province. "Maybe after last weekend, people might want to reappraise the Leinster championship. Maybe Offaly and Wexford are not as bad as people are talking about. "Kilkenny's strength was a lot to do with it and both of them performed spectacularly once they were finished the Leinster championship. The idea of other teams' inclusion to the province is to be put before Special Congress, while the Hurling Development Committee (HDC) are to hear other proposals over the coming weeks. "Paraic [GAA Director General Paraic Duffy] and I have met with all of the provinces - we have a small bit of business just to tidy things up," Brennan said. "There's been a wide engagement by the HDC, talking to all different parties involved and hopefully we will come out with a set of proposals. "Whether we can get one set of proposals that everyone agrees with might be too much. "Ideally we would like to put one set of proposals on the table but having said that, if it has to be a number of options then so be it."
