Cats not sore over Kenny incident

August 12, 2008
Kilkenny chairman Paul Kinsella has insisted that there is no desire in the county to see Cork's Tom Kenny suspended following a controversial incident involving James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick during last Sunday's All-Ireland semi-final. Kenny is facing a lengthy ban after TV pictures showed him flicking his hurl in the direction of Fitzpatrick's groin in the closing stages of the game. Fitzpatrick was left writhing on the ground in agony and was stretchered off but, while he is still sore, he is expected to return to training in the coming days. Kinsella has called for no action to be taken against Kenny, who has had an exemplary discipline record in the past, but feels an appeal is likely to fall on deaf ears. "Nobody is more sorry than Tom Kenny this morning and in fairness he was the first man to go to 'Cha', if you follow through on the video," he said. "I would prefer that the match is finished and that's the end of it as far as we're concerned. Cork and Kilkenny are good friends again and there's a great mutual respect also between the players as hurlers."
