On Sunday, Brendan Maher became the first man to captain All-Ireland MHC and SHC winning sides since none other than Brian Cody.

Having led the Premier County to minor glory in 2007, when he collected his second All-Ireland medal in the under 18 grade, Borris-Ileigh clubman Maher was also captain last weekend as he secured his second senior All-Ireland souvenir.

Not only did Maher lead Tipp to victory over Brian Cody's charges in the 2016 Liam MacCarthy Cup decider but he also equalled the legendary Kilkenny manager's astonishing playing record - Cody captained the Cats to minor success in 1972 and to hurling's biggest prize a decade later.

If Maher's career continues to mirror Cody's after he hangs up his hurl, then Tipperary people will be more than happy!
