Kilkenny's inspirational midfielder Michael Fennelly will miss the 2016 All-Ireland SHC final against Tipperary.

The Ballyhale Shamrocks clubman had to be substituted ten minutes from the end of the Cats' epic semi-final replay victory over Waterford in Thurles on Saturday and it has been confirmed that he sustained ankle ligament damage and will not be available for the September 4^th clash with the Premier County.

Hurler of the Year in 2011, Fennelly - who will be sidelined long-term - came back from a back injury to deliver a Man of the Match performance in last year's All-Ireland showcase as he collected his eighth winners' medal with the Black & Amber.

Kilkenny GAA tonight confirm that Ml Fennelly has ruptured his Achilles' tendon & is out of All Irl Final. We wish him well in his recovery.
