Waterford have named a strengthened team to face Kilkenny in the opening round of the Allianz League today.

Derek McGrath's starting 15 shows 14 survivors from the one that narrowly lost to the Cats in last year's All-Ireland semi-final.

Young Hurler of the Year Tadhg de Burca is the only player to drop out as the Déise host their close rivals at Walsh Park.

Dungarvan's Patrick Curran is called up for his league debut and will line out at right corner-forward.

Waterford (NHL v Kilkenny): Stephen O'Keeffe; Shane Fives, Barry Coughlan, Noel Connors; Austin Gleeson, Darragh Fives, Philip Mahony; Jamie Barron, Maurice Shanahan; Kevin Moran, Shane Bennett, Michael Walsh; Patrick Curran, Jake Dillon, Colin Dunford.
