Kilkenny star bids for AFL contract

Kilkenny All-Ireland winning minor captain Darragh Joyce is currently in Australia seeking an AFL contract.

Joyce and Tipperary star Colin O'Riordan flew out to Melbourne on Monday morning having impressed at a series of trials held in Ireland.

The 18-year-old captained Kilkenny to the All-Ireland MHC title in 2014, but he is now hoping to impress scouts in a 12-day training programme.

If successful, he will receive a rookie contract for two years. Joyce has excelled in both hurling football, with his football prowess coming to the fore with Good Counsel College in Wexford.

A Rower-Inistigoe club official said: "This is a big chance for Darragh and we wish him the best of luck."
