IT Carlow objection could derail Fitzgibbon Cup

IT Carlow

The Fitzgibbon Cup could be held up after IT Carlow confirmed that they'll object to their expulsion.

DJ Carey's charges had beated Eamonn Cregan's Mary Immaculate by nine points last week to secure a quarter-final spot but an appeal against the eligibility of part-time business student James Gannon was upheld by the Comhairle Ardoideachais hearings committee.

Mary I have subsequently assumed IT Carlow's place in Thursday's quarter-final against DIT but things could now get messy...

The Carlow college is taking an appeal to the Central Appeals Committee and this hearing would have to be heard and ruled upon before tomorrow (Wednesday) night in order for Thursday's quarter-finals (the second one being Limerick IT V Waterford IT) to proceed.

The first and second quarter-finals (CIT V NUIG and UL V UCD) are pencilled in for tomorrow afternoon, with the semi-finals and final due to be played on Friday and Saturday of next week.
