Ballyhale Shamrocks are likely to choose defender Joey Holden as Kilkenny's captain for the 2015 season.

Kilkenny is one of the few counties in the country where the senior county champions still nominate the county captain for the following season and full back Holden could get the nod as the likes of Henry Shefflin (2007), Michael Fennelly (2009), TJ Reid (2010) and Colin Fennelly (2013)  have already held the honour.

The reigning Kilkenny and Leinster club champions believe in rotating the captaincy wherever possible and 24-year-old Holden comes into the picture as he is their only current county panellist who hasn't yet captained the Black & Amber.

Holden is capable of performing in a number of defensive roles and his prospects of featuring prominently for the Noresiders in the coming season have been boosted by his role in Shamrocks' 2014 heroics as well as the recent retirements of Kilkenny stalwarts JJ Delaney, Brian Hogan and Tommy Walsh.
