Bennettsbridge bring cup to Martin's grave

Players and supporters of the Bennettsbridge club made a touching visit to the grave of club stalwart Martin Treacy with the Kilkenny JHC trophy after their county final victory last Sunday.
Martin died on June 5 last, but his club-mates ensured he was part of the celebrations after their 1-17 to 1-7 victory over Mooncoin at Nowlan Park by bringing the silverware to St. Kieran's cemetery where his remains lie.
Martin was a star player with Bennettsbridge and Kilkenny in his younger years, winning an All-Ireland senior medal with the Cats in 1963 as well as two Leinster medals. He also won six Kilkenny SHC medals with the 'Bridge between 1959 and '67.
His younger brother Jim is the holder of six All-Ireland senior medals, and captained Kilkenny to their 1967 triumph.
Following his retirement, Martin immersed himself in the administrative side of the GAA, serving with Bennettsbridge and the Kilkenny county board.
