Manager Charlie Carter says his St Martin's players "showed great character" in their Kilkenny SHC quarter-final.

The former Kilkenny attacker was a happy man following Sunday's 2-16 to 2-13 defeat of Dicksboro at Freshford. "That was a good win. The players had to put their heads down and work hard," he told The Kilkenny People.

"The attitude was spot on. We were knocked a bit all week after a less than satisfying showing against Fenians, but that was never going to be easy. We dug out a win there too.

"The players showed great character. We were in the semis last year and ran Clara to three points and were a bit unlucky in the first half when a few more scores might have gone in for us.

"We didn't get going this year until the last few weeks. It's not a bad time of the year to be getting a bit of a run at it again."
