Ireland 2-8

Ireland have a mountain to climb against Scotland in the Hurling/Shinty International series following today's opening test in Inverness.

The two sides will renew acquaintances in Newry next weekend in the second test and Michael Walsh's charges have it all to do as they trail by nine points.

Seeking a sixth successive win, 12 counties were represented on the Irish squad which included household names such as Patrick Horgan and Patrick 'Bonner' Maher but they played second fiddle to the hosts for the majority of the contest and trailed by 1-3 to 1-10 at the break.

The Scots had 1-6 on the scoreboard before Conor Lehane opened Ireland's account with a goal.

Bonner Maher put his name to Ireland's second-half goal but the Tipperary man's strike failed to stem the tide as Roddy MacDonald and 'man-of-the-match' Kevin Bartlett struck at the other end of the field for Ronald Ross' charges.
