Mind the gap

Brian Cody says "the expertise is there to manage the gap" in both Kilkenny and Tipperary.

Some observers have suggested that the Black & Amber carry an advantage into Saturday's All-Ireland SHC final replay as they won the 2012 decider against Galway at the second attempt (as well as this year's Leinster semi-final against the Tribesmen and the league final against Tipp). But Cody isn't convinced by this argument and also feels that the three-week wait isn't an issue.

"It's exaggerated thinking too much about the fact that you are playing in three weeks' time," the Cats boss notes in The Irish Daily Star.

"All those players are so used to playing three weeks after a big game anyway, or two weeks, or in some cases six weeks afterwards.

"You talk about how do you manage a six-week gap between a Leinster final and an All-Ireland semi-final or a two-week gap. The expertise is there to manage the gap.

"The players themselves are so accustomed to it, they know how to recover and do the right thing. It's not a case of 'did we learn something in 2012?'.

"I don't think we did learn anything in particular that's going to help us in this case at all. Different people asking 'do you have an advantage over Tipperary?'. We don't have any advantage. They have the expertise as well."
