Brian Cody remains vehemently opposed to the introduction of the black card rule in hurling.

As someone who called for the abolishment of the yellow and red card system earlier this year, it's no surprise to hear the Kilkenny manager speak out strongly against the black card, which made its debut in football on January 1 last.

"I would be absolutely opposed to the black card coming in for hurling," he said at last night's pre-All-Ireland final press night.

"Everyone talks about the quality of the game, the game is there, the standard is very, very good. There's huge talk about it after last year's championship, everyone was waxing lyrically about the whole thing as if hurling was in a terrific place.

"I mean, why would we need to tinker with it again? Is it because the black card is there in football? I certainly see absolutely no need for anything like that.

"I haven't, to be honest, paid attention to anything (i.e. the black card rule in football) - because we're hurling at the moment. I think hurling is great, everything about it is very, very good and we don't need to tinker with it at all."
