There may have been just one hurling game down for decision but there were still plenty of hard calls that had to be made in picking our hurling team of the week.

1. David Herity (Kilkenny)

The Kilkenny goal lived a charmed life on occasions but Herity managed to keep Limerick at bay.

2. Jackie Tyrell (Kilkenny)

The experienced defender epitomised Kilkenny's approach to the game in battling for every ball as if his life depended on it.

3. JJ Delaney (Kilkenny)

Shane Dowling caused plenty of headaches for the Cats' number three but, as you would expect, Delaney stuck gamely to his task.

4. Seamus Hickey (Limerick)

No finger of blame can be pointed in the direction of the former 'Young Hurler of the Year' who held TJ Reid scoreless from play.

5. Gavin O'Mahony (Limerick)

Gave Henry Shefflin a 'warm' welcome on his arrival onto the field in the second-half and, like many of his team-mates, can hold his head high.

6. Wayne McNamara (Limerick)

Had his hans full with the impressive Colin Fennelly, but the Shannonsiders' number six narrowly gets the vote ahead of Brian Hogan.

7. Cillian Buckley (Kilkenny)

The hard-working half-back enjoyed another productive outing and Cats fans will be hoping for more of the same on September 7th.

8. Richie Hogan (Kilkenny)

Hogan enhanced his 'Hurler of the Year' credentials with another barnstorming display and his first half stoppage-time goal knocked the wind out of Limerick's sails.

9. Paul Browne (Limerick)

The Treaty County midfielder's probing forward runs had the Kilkenny defence back-tracking.

10. Michael Fennelly (Kilkenny)

The former 'Hurler of the Year' marked his return from injury with two points.

11. Colin Fennelly (Kilkenny)

The number 11 finishing as his team's top scorer from play with four valuable points.

12. Declan Hannon (Limerick)

Displayed commendable character to erase last year's semi-final nightmare and shot five points from play off Brian Hogan.

13. Richie Power (Kilkenny)

The Carrickshock clubman's arrival on the pitch in the 53rd minute gave the Cats extra impetus and his goal three minutes later ultimately decided the contest.

14. Shane Dowling (Limerick)

Dowling sent over seven points, including two from play, and made a nuisance of himself for the Cats' full-back line.

15. Graeme Mulcahy (Limerick)

The Shannonsiders' nippy corner-forward saw plenty of ball and raised two white flags.
