Cavanagh and Larkin scoop top awards
November 08, 2008

Sean Cavanagh
There were no real surprises when the 2008 Opel Gaelic Players of the Year for hurling and football were announced at the GPA's Annual Awards Ceremony at Citywest on Friday night.
In football, Tyrone's inspirational captain Sean Cavanagh was voted the Player of the Year, while Kilkenny's Eoin Larkin picked up the award in hurling. Both players will be the recipients of a brand new Opel Astra.
Cavanagh had an outstanding year as not only did he captain Tyrone to All-Ireland glory, but he also lead Ireland to success in the international rules series in Australia last month.
While, Larkin produced a number of outstanding displays throughout the course of the campaign as the Cats lifted their third successive All-Ireland title, following an emphatic win over Waterford in the final.
Meanwhile, other awards for 2008 announced by the GPA on Friday were:
GPA Player of the Tournament, Tommy Murphy Cup: Tony Hannon (Wicklow)
GPA Player of the Tournament, Christy Ring: Brendan Murtagh (Westmeath)
GPA Player of the Tournament, Nicky Rackard Cup: Keith Raymond (Sligo)
