Farrell calls for recognition
November 01, 2008
GPA Chief Executive Dessie Farrell believes that it is imperative that the GAA finally give the player's association the officially recognition that it has been asking for since its inception.
The plea comes as the latest player v. officials row erupts in Cork and Farrell is in no doubt that if the GAA backed down, then these sort of problems would not be as common place as they have been in recent years.
"I think there is an opportunity here for the GAA to formally recognise the GPA and put in structures to avoid these type of situations and so everything is dealt with in a fair and equitable manner," said Farrell. "Players can come through us, county boards can come through Croke Park and avoid this type of situation."
The Cork hurlers are threatening to boycott the county team if current manager Gerald McCarthy remains at the helm for next year's campaign, and if they follow through with their promise, then it would be the second time in just 12 months that there was a stand off between players and officials in the county.
