Kennedy and Walsh go to battle

September 05, 2008
Ducksy Walsh has been the king of Irish handball courts for past two decades and this year sees the 42-year-old appear in his 20th All-Ireland Senior Final. His opponent at Croke Park handball headquarters on Saturday is Dublin's Eoin Kennedy and the 29-year-old is making great inroads on the Kilkenny legend's incredible haul of silverware. The M DONNELLY 60x30 All-Ireland Finals were announced as a sell out earlier in the week and with GAA President, Nickey Brennan also attending the event, a top programme is in store. Kennedy is aiming for his fifth title in succession, while Walsh, who claimed 16 All-Ireland senior titles between 1985 and 2001, will be out to make amends for last year's final defeat. Ducksy last collected honours in 2002 when he defeated Kennedy in their first ever meeting but since then the Dubliner has held his own, winning five of the last six crowns. Ducksy also likes the limelight and having played in 19 finals, he knows what All-Ireland final day in Croke Park is all about. Also in action will be minor finalists, Limerick's Seamus O'Carroll and Meath's Gary McConnell. O'Carroll will also contest the doubles final in two weeks time, while McConnell is bidding for a small and big alley double having collected minor 40x20 honours in April. In the Intermediate Doubles Final, Dublin's Ian Griffin and Kerry Hennessy will have a tough battle against Tipperary's Ger Coonan and Martin McNerney. It will be a family occasion for Limerick native, Hennessy with sister, Bernie, contesting the Ladies final against Ashley Prendeville from the Kindgom.
