Kavanagh wary of Deise threat
September 03, 2008
Kilkenny veteran Michael Kavanagh has admitted that Waterford will have no fear of coming up against the Cats this Sunday at Croke Park, with the biggest prize in hurling on the line.
The defender admits that while the reigning Champions top their opponents for experience this weekend, he knows the Deises will be looking to make their hurting memories at Croke Park when it counts on Sunday.
"Waterford have been knocking on the door for a long time. They played in six semi-finals and were in lucky in a few of them, like the day against Cork when Ken McGrath's late point was brought down by Donal Óg.
"There's a lot of experience there. They have top-class forwards and All Stars in every line of the field - a formidable outfit."
If Brian Cody's men do what's expected of them and defeat Waterford for an elusive three in-a-row, they will also jump past Cork in the roll of honours list for All-Ireland crowns.
"All-Irelands are there for the winning and that's what we want to do," admitted Kavanagh.
"We have more experience, but Waterford are no strangers to Croke Park," he said.
"They have played in a lot of big games and they beat us in the League final last year. They won't have any fears of playing Kilkenny."
