Fennelly making late bid for inclusion

August 29, 2008
Michael Fennelly is back in contention for a place in Kilkenny's All-Ireland hurling final line-up after returning to training this week. The former All-Ireland under 21 winning captain broke a bone in his thumb six weeks ago which forced him to miss the All-Ireland semi-final win over Cork. But after undergoing surgery, which involved having a screw inserted into the hand to keep the damaged bone in place, he has regained full fitness and will be bidding to regain his place at midfield. However, it's unlikely that manager Brian Cody will opt to break up the partnership of James 'Cha' Fitzpatrick and Derek Lyng, which was so effective against Cork. Apart from a few minor knocks being nursed by a couple of players, the Cats report a clean bill of health ahead of the showdown with Waterford.
