Tullaroan enjoying the ride

Tullaroan are on the way to Croke Park.

At the start of the 2019 campaign, Tullaroan targeted the Kilkenny IHC title, now they are preparing for an All-Ireland club final.

Tullaroan manger Jimmy Coogan admitted to the Kilkenny People they never looked beyond the county championship and each step since has been a bonus outing for them.

They have already picked up provincial honours and a win over Cork side Fr O’Neill’s would see them being crowned the All-Ireland club IHC winners.

Coogan has adopted the one game at a time philosophy, but he acknowledges at this stage of the campaign that there is only the one game left.

“We hadn’t even thought of a Leinster campaign or an All-Ireland for that matter, but we’re delighted to be heading to Croke Park. Everyone is looking forward to it,” said Coogan.

He added: “Club hurling in Kilkenny is very strong and very competitive. You look at the teams that have won the intermediate championship in the last few years – the likes of Carrickshock, St Patrick’s and Graigue-Ballycallan and they had good runs in Leinster and the All-Ireland series.

“However, when we won the county championship we played the Leinster quarterfinal a week later, so we hadn’t time to think about it – we had to get on with it. We’ve gathered momentum since, so we’re delighted to be where we are.”
