Ballyhale Shamrocks defender Richie Reid is hoping his team mates get over the line in the Leinster club SHC final.

Reid headed off on a six-month tour of duty to the Lebanon with the Irish Army last Monday, having played a starring role in their win over Wexford side St Martin’s last Saturday.

It was expected that would be the end of the county panellists involvement in the club championship regardless of how Ballyhale do, but he will be available for the All-Ireland semi-final, should they beat Carlow champions St Mullin’s in the decider next week.

“I would love to stay around with the club going so well, but duty calls. It would be a nice addition to the Christmas break if we get to the semi-final and I get to play in it,” Reid told the Kilkenny People.

The defending All-Ireland club champions are raging hot favourites to see off St Mullin’s in the provincial decider on December 1.
