While acknowledging that his departure is a blow to Kilkenny, Richie Power believes Michael Dempsey has left a lasting legacy.

Brian Cody's right-hand man and physical trainer stepped down this week after being involved in eight All-Ireland SHC successes with the Cats, and will now be able to give more time to his roles with IT Carlow and Leinster GAA.

"He's a huge loss," former Kilkenny star Power told RTE.

"Mick has been a focal point of Kilkenny's success over the last 10-15 years, and he has laid the foundations for something really solid going forward. I don’t think he could have done any more for Kilkenny than he did and people will never realise the amount of work he did behind the scenes.

"He has given a lot of his time to Kilkenny GAA and he’s moving on to the next challenge. He’s leaving it in a very strong position and it will be up to the next guy to take it to the next level."
