Kilkenny defender Paddy Deegan faces a race against time to be fit for the Leinster SHC final.

The O’Loughlin Gaels clubman was forced off through injury during the titanic clash against Wexford in the Leinster championship at Innovate Wexford Park last Saturday evening.

Kilkenny manager Brian Cody admitted to the Kilkenny People that they were unsure whether or not Deegan would be fit for the final, but stressed that the defender wouldn’t have come off unless it was serious.

“Paddy is a player who wouldn’t come off unless he couldn’t walk,” said Cody. “His heart is huge and his bravery is everything. Paddy couldn’t play on, which was unfortunate, so our concern straight away is to see how he is.”

Cody admitted that they have had their fair share of injury concerns this year. “We’ve had a tough time with injuries, not least now with Paddy picking up another one. However, we always talk about our panel and how that’s everything. When you have injuries you have to get on with things.”
