Kilkenny defender Paddy Deegan is in no doubt that the tough club championship stands to the players on the county squad.

The league end of the season begins in Kilkenny this weekend and the O’Loughlin Gaels clubman admits that the competitive nature of the club scene is perfect preparation for the Leinster SHC.

“It’s so competitive here. You never know what way it will go. You have to put yourself in the best position and go on and win it,” Deegan told the Kilkenny People.

“It’s great to have club and county commitments. I get up to club training when I can. I like to be in around the lads, so you don’t feel like a stranger – it’s good to do so they don’t forget me,” he joked.

Deegan added: “I love the way the league structured in Kilkenny. Every game is so important that you want to win, you have to win. It makes games very competitive, which is a great way to have things.”
