Harnedy and Delaney to miss championship openers

Cork's Seamus Harnedy and Conor Delaney of Kilkenny.

Cork captain Seamus Harnedy and Kilkenny's Conor Delaney look set to miss their counties’ Munster and Leinster championships openers, respectively.

Both players were sent off in Round 5 of the Allianz Hurling League last weekend which carries an automatic one match suspension.

The two counties are set to square off in Saturday's Division 1A relegation play-off and the GAA this afternoon confirmed that both players are free to line out in the Nowlan Park clash.

"It is the view of the C.C.C.C. that Conor Delaney & Seamus Harnedy are eligible to play in the Relegation Play-Off on Saturday next," said a spokesperson for the association is quoted saying by RTE Sport.

It means that the suspensions handed down from the final round games are set to carry over to the provincial championship openers, with Kilkenny to open against Dublin on May 11th and Cork hosting Tipperary in the Munster SHC group stages the following day.
