As we approach the business end of the pre-season competitions, a number of key matches proceeded this afternoon in both codes.

The O'Byrne Cup final pairing was determined when Meath hosted Longford in what turned out to be a historic encounter in Navan and Westmeath entertained Offaly, while Dublin and Wexford faced-off for the right to meet Kilkenny in the Walsh Cup final.

Up north, Fermanagh and Tyrone contested an intriguing Dr McKenna Cup semi-final, while three rescheduled Round Two fixtures took place to determine the second semi-final line-up. Armagh V Derry, Down V UUJ and Monaghan V Donegal were all fascinating fixtures.

Meanwhile, Limerick and Clare crossed swords in what promised to be a superb Munster SHL final at the Gaelic Grounds, while the footballers of Galway and Mayo were both in Connacht SFL action for the second time in under 48 hours, the Tribe hosting Leitrim with Mayo away to on-song Roscommon.

To complete an action-packed afternoon of intercounty fare, Kerry and Cork played an unresolved Munster SHL Round Three fixture - a game which produced another one of the stories of the day - and there were also two games in the third round of the Kehoe Cup.
