Kildare's opening league match...Croker
Here we go again with the meath boys. They pick out a certain comment about the ref in a couple of posts and suddenly decide the Kildare fans are blaming the ref. Its now 2012 lads - no need for the bitterness over last years defeats to linger on. Get over it. I can recommend a good counsellor.

Royaldunne seeing as i was the one who first asked people's opinion on this i suggest you go back and read the post again. Where in the post do i blame the Ref for the defeat? I questioned the decision to blow for half time while a player was taking a shot. Many others around me were similarly perplexed by it. Get your facts right chief before you come on spouting old rubbish...it does make you look a tad foolish!

Ah come on lads will you get real. Kildare loose and it has to be refs fault now that sounds familiar.
Kildare were beaten by a better team. And if you continue to play like that. Derry, galway, and yes shock horror meath are all very capable of winning against yous. What you need is a forward not johnston but a decent forward. Plus got to close those hiles in backs. Then yes you will qualify. And for the love of god stop blaming refs for your shortcomings. Please

lillywhitemagic - I presume you mean Rob Kelly when he came oncos Peter got a bit of a roasting off O'Neill if we're honest, how many scores did he get? I think the real problem luys in the forwards though but this can be rectified as the players are there. Lets not blow the loss out of proportion. I still see a big year ahead.

I agree with you 100% Lilywhite, Smithy wasn't at the races on Saturday night and I think Geezer should cal time on him as he has been given enough chances now to show what he is capable of but hasn't delivered. As for Kavanagh he wasn't as poor as Smithy in that he won most of the ball that was put into him but yet didn't score. It appears to me that he has a confidence problem as he'll take on a very difficult shot but not an easy one in that there will be no blame attaching to him if he misses the hard shot.
I wonder was the first half performance more down to the way Tyrone played rather than that we played well? In the second half when they ran at us through the middle and played Stephen O'Neill closer to goal they destroyed us. However I'd take hearth in that they only had one more score than us.
As for the referee he made some very peculiar decisions none more so than blowing the half time whistle just as a Kildare was about to pull the tricker. I never saw that happen before. In fact in the match against Donegal last year the ref played nearly an extra minute to allow the ball to go dead and in that time Donegal scored a point which made all the difference in the end.

Kildare's opening league match...Croker
have to say after been in croker saturday night i was disappointed..thought we didnt do too bad in the 1st half but still didnt play near what we are capable of..
we didnt play with the collective urgency and pace to move the ball like we did against dublin in the o byrne cup, mickey conway peter kelly and o connor were good from kildare point of view..
what i will say and many might not like it is..no team will beat tyrone when the oppositions two forwards are not on form you might get away with having one forward having an off day,but it is as clear as day that both smithy and kavangh werent firing on all cylinders saturday night,i for one would have welcomed johnston there on saturday night to make a difference not sayig he is the soloution to the forward problem,it is only febuaray but still if this was a championship match and kavangh and smith played the same wouldnt he be a good option to bring in..there doesnt seem to be anybody forward to get the ball that o connor can lay off very quickly somebody should be there to get it and fire it into the back of the net..
on another point thought the ref wasnt great.actuallly a lot of decisons he made were just ridiculous including the incident before he let the ball go dead at half time should of been a kildare free/point..also can anyone confirm if i think it was a kavanagh shot at the hill end second half was sitting in hoganstand and the majority beside us thought it went over but was waved wide..on a positive note tis only early days and kildare are probably better than many of the teams in division two, even though they will be tough games to win with them been away,
think we are still capable of promotion..kildare /tyrone divison two final ;) hmm..

Two very different halves of a game. Tyrone started brightly but we were comfortable in most positions for pretty much all of the first half. It was a bit scrappy but you'd expect that with wet conditions/time of year etc. Tyrone always looked dangerous but felt we dealt with their main threats well in the first half. Then the second half. Tyrone find a new gear and we are left for dust. No real fight or hunger either. Very very poor. Then i see Johnny Doyle coming on into midfield position. What is McGeeney at?? Whatever chance you have of beating an inform team like Tyrone you havent a pups chance if players are not playing in their right positions. Eoin O'Flaherty is wasted in the half back line and conway should be playing far deeper up the field. Lads, iv'e said it before. Kavanagh is just not cutting it. He fumbles so much ball and is not near consistent enough to be starting big games like these. Smithy was roasted too. It's a real worry. Anyway we have to suck it up because Tyrone were just toying with us in the second half and were exceptional. I think we will lift it for the next game though. Just need players like Lepper and Doyle back starting.
Just as a side note: What the hell was the ref doing blowing up for half time right as a player is taking a shot? Ok it happened to be a Kildare player but what was he doing?
GAA Reffing has gone to the dogs? What do others think?

Last night confirmed what was apparent for the last 18 months. Smith, Kavanagh, Flanagan and Sweeney just cant do it against the top teams. Doyle has to be played alongside O'Connor, see the fine point he got last night. O'Flaherty is not a wing back but Conway is. Why did we not try out a few new forwards and a midfielder in the OB cup. And why oh why did we give up home advantage to Tyrone? I bet they are still laughing up north at that decision.

value your opinion stekhli! which o'neill? padraig or tommy? if you mean tommy then i agree! tommy has done well in the o byrne cup & didnt play badly last night but morgan o'flaherty will come in at centre back for next match id say! still plenty of players to come back as by my reckoning only about half the team that started last night will start come championship!

Kildare happy as "almost-winners"?
best not to read to much into 1 match, however a lot of the same problems remain no real bite up front, defense went missing for the goals, J Doyle wasted at midfield. If we're using the league to learn things its pretty pointless taking young lads off after 15 mins, we know what Roli, alan smith brian flanagan have to offer so i'd prefer to see others get a proper chance if we're not playing our 1st choice team

Strange how they kildare supporters gone very quite? Apart from the genuine supporters that can analyze a game no matter what the result. I was just looking over old posts and there was plenty of posts on victory over dubs in obyrne cup and nearly just as many on meaths defeat to dcu. What gives? Surely dedicated supporters will post and analyze games no matter what result?
Honestly lads so what if your not in top 4 teams really. And one defeat is not end of year. What this weekends results prove are that top 5 teams are kerry, cork, dublin, tyrone, armagh, with down not that far behind. Now surely it is up to next 4 teams who in my view are mayo ,kildare, meath, donegal, to raise up to the challenge. Just because some believed the hype and it has been proved wrong soes not mean that you lay down and take it. If mcgeeney is the manager so many of you believe he is then he needs to get it sorted. And please do not think seannie johnston is the answer

Yea some very strange team decisions last night. Hard for Moolick to impress in only 20 minutes. At that stage any of forwards apart from O'Connor and Conway could have gone. Taking off Flynn didn't make sense either unless he was injured? Everyone can see Doyle is needed most in the forwards. Why they keep playing him in the middle I don't know. Eoghan O'Flaherty should be in the forwards too. We've plenty of options for backs so can't see the sense in putting him there either. The likes of Doyle and Callaghan need to start next week.

Some of geezers decisions are crazy.. Taking young moolick off after 20 mins was a poor decision, ok he didnt get much ball but neither did jimmers or smith.. also tyrone were dominant in the first 15-20 mins as is always the case in a kildare match.. the lads always start sluggishly due to the intensity of the warm up.. seriously dents the confidence of young lads

You learn more in defeat than you do in victory. Some shortcomings highlighted again such as the lack of top class scoring forwards and the fact that Doyle has to play as close as possible to O'Connor.. Tyrone were very impressive in parts and look to have really targeted the league. It was a good match overall with plenty of decent football from Kildare at times as well with still plenty of guys to come back in to the team.

Have to say mcgeeney should at least have some of his backs on field for what was surely a defining game for remainder of league if as has been said that only one out of six playing tonight will feature in coming months I think that mistake. However on flip side meath scored 1-15 tonight I have been often slated by kildare supporters for saying meath have some of the most natural forwards in country but its a fact! Now we won by 5 points but we went asleep for 20 mins again but that aside although looking very rusty cian. , joe, steven, biggy, looked very impressive and we have found a little gem in paddy gilsennan, watch out for him in first week in march his pace and vision is sublime.

Depressing second half performance. Our forwards are just not good enough, Smith and Kavanagh need to be dropped and replaced with Kelly and any one of 5 young players. They are living on the reputations from 09 and are no where good enough at this level. Maybe Flynn was injured, otherwise the decision to replace him instead of Sweeney was mind boggling. Would any Kildare player have scored the goals Tyrone scored? Paudie O'Neill blazed over in the first half and didn't even look disappointed at missing a goal that any Tyrone player would have taken. I'll gladly buy an appartment for Seanie if thats what it takes to get a scoring forward for Kildare!
