Maynooth University 3-5

Kildare claimed the Kehoe Cup title this afternoon with a comfortable 10-point victory over Maynooth University at the Hawkfield Centre of Excellence.

Three second-half goals made all the difference for the Lilywhites in this decider after their counterparts had held them to a one-point lead at the halfway stage.

The Maynooth students had enjoyed a better spell in the opening exchanges before Gerry Keegan settled Joe Quaid's men into this decider with a couple of fine scores.

Jim White's 14th minute major surged Maynooth back in front but the would-be winners had the answer at the other end with points from Philip Cocoman, Jack Sheridan and Martin Fitzgerald to move towards a 0-9 to 1-5 half-time lead.

The second-half saw Quaid's side up the ante considerably, outscoring their opponents by nine scores to two, with Declan Flaherty (2) and Richie Ryan bagging the all-important goals which ended Maynooth's chances.

The win marks Kildare's second success in the competition after defeating Meath to claim their inaugural title in 2013.
