Kieran Donaghy's absence from the Kerry starting 15 today was a "precautionary measure" according to manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice.

Speaking to RTE following today's 27 point drubbing of Kildare, last year's All-Ireland winning manager explained: "Kieran tweaked his groin on Thursday night.

"We had a light session and he just gave it a tweak. We gave him until the last minute, it was precautionary more so than anything else.

"We could have pushed him but we were just worried that he could damage it. We held him back and, thankfully, it worked out okay."

There was no mention of the shoulder injury sustained by Footballer of the Year James O'Donoghue as Fitzmaurice continued: "We're delighted with the win.

"Training has gone well for the last couple of weeks, we definitely went up a notch or two after the Cork replay game. We were looking forward to coming up to Croke Park this weekend and, thankfully, there was a performance there in us today."

Would he have preferred a sterner test going into the last four?

"No, we're just delighted to be in the All-Ireland semi-final," he answered.

"We've three more weeks now to get ready for that. We'll know our opposition after next weekend and we'll take it from there then again."
