Lawlor relieved

Kildare manager Brian Lawlor admitted that there was an overriding feeling of relief following their Christy Ring Cup win over Meath.

The Lilywhites produced an eighteen-point turnaround against the Royals to progress to the semi-final where they will take on last year's finalists Kerry at Newbridge.

Lawlor admitted to the Leinster Leader that it didn't look great for them at half time, but he praised his players for the character that they showed.

"In knock-out matches it is all about the scoreline and getting into the next round. At half time, we wouldn't have been happy at all with our first half performance but we focussed on the scoreboard and we were only one point down. We were absolutely happy with that," said Lawlor.

"I think the game hinged with Meath not putting us away in the first half. They went nine points up and had the impetus but didn't push it on. They had some silly wides and I think that that was the talking point of the game, that they left us in the game.

"Then when there was only the 35 minutes of the second half left, I felt that we showed our class and pushed on. But I do think we kinda got out of jail a small bit with them not putting us away."
