Emmet Bolton believes Kildare can recover from their disastrous league campaign and impress in the championship.

Having been relegated to Division Three, the Lilywhites will open their Leinster SFC campaign against either Laois or Carlow in June and defensive stalwart Bolton is backing his team-mates to kick on:

"There's been a lot of soul searching," he notes in The Irish Daily Star. "We have to look in the mirror to see where we go from here. You saw Armagh last year: relegated to Division Three, they got to an All-Ireland quarter-final and were very unlucky to lose it.

"There is a good group of players there, experienced and new lads coming through from the U21s this year and last year. So if we can all just group together and stick the heads down for the next nine weeks we should be okay.

"Look, our backs are against the wall and we can't really go any lower at the minute. Confidence wouldn't be as high as we'd want it to be. We are all sportsmen, we are all mature enough to say 'we'll park that and learn from it individually and as a group'."
