New Kildare hurling recruit David Young is confident that the Lilywhites can be competing in the Leinster championship in the near future.

Young played a starring role for Brian Lawlor's charges in their opening League win over Meath last Sunday and he has been impressed by the professionalism of the whole set up.

The former Tipperary star is adamant that if Kildare keep making the progress that they have been doing, then a place in the provincial series is not far away.

"I can see Kildare up in the Liam McCarthy in the next year or two and competing," Young told the Kildare Nationalist. "They have great talent coming through, won the All-Ireland B last year and are in the under-21 A this year.

"There are some great hurlers coming through who would make any hurling set up. There's some great hurlers, Kildare hurling is on the up and that was shown last year in the Christy Ring. That's the target again this year and there are some very good hurlers coming through."
