Ladies Intermediate Championship Final
Saturday, September 13, 2014
Sarsfields 5.17; Monasterevan 2.10
Good things come to those who wait, and on Saturday, after a gap of 10 years Sarsfields ladies ended a long wait and won the Kildare Intermediate Championship.
It has been a terrific number of months for the Sash who in the spring won the Division 2 league. The club also fielded 2 teams in this year's championship with the second team reaching the Semi Final of the Junior C championship, a great effort from all players and coaches.
Monasterevan started and finished the game very strongly and registered the opening score of the game through Gemma Bannon an Aoife Stapleton goal midway through the first half gave Monasterevin a strong position in the game. Sarsfields kept the scoreboard ticking with points from Noelle Earley, Roisin Byrne, Molly Price and Claire Fox. The key turning point in the opening half was a well converted Sash penalty well converted by Emily Aulsberry. Sash finished the half strongly with a well taken goal following a fine solo run from Becky Houlihan.
Two well taken goals by Molly Price early in the second half gave the Sash some breathing space. Monasterevin to their credit never gave up and battled strongly to the end adding 1.04 without reply. The Sash though were not to be denied and defended strongly to close out the game. Ten years of waiting were over.
