McMahon: the better team won

September 13, 2014

It was a case of third time lucky for Kildare in the All-Ireland U-21 'B' HC final today and joint-manager Noel McMahon breathed a sigh of relief at the final whistle.

"Overall I think it was a fair reflection of the game," he said to TG4 shortly after the final whistle.

"We were the better team. We were a bit disappointed going in at half-time, we were only four points up.

"I think we should have been maybe eight or nine points up at least with the amount of possession we had.

"After half-time, Gerry Keegan just took over, took responsibility. After that we were comfortable. The goal obviously put us in the driving seat."

Centre-forward Keegan was the main architect of the success and the captain said: "After the last two years, losing by a point it was absolute hearbreaking.

"We weren't coming out of here today without the win so we're delighted with it."
