Monasterevan lined out for their second championship game against Castlemitchell after a successful result in their first round against Ballykelly to give another display of great football. Sisters Sinead and Claire Melia started well in mid-field and after 2 minutes Aine Nash opens the scoring with a point. This is followed shortly with points from Aoife Stapleton, Lauren Kelly, Sinead Melia and Sinead McBride. After 12 minutes played Michelle Morrissey is fouled at the goalline to give Monasterevan a free. This is taken by Ailish Heavey but was kicked wide. Most of the first half was dominated by Monasterevan however a Castlemitchell 45 resulted in a goal against the blues. Monasterevan fought on from this with points from Ailish Heavey along with Lauren Kelly. Caoimhe Harrison came up from the backs to put the ball in the back of the net. Half time score Monasterevan 1-09 CastleMitchell 1-0
Monasterevan made changes in the second half with Gemma Hurley replacing goalie Caroline Gorry.Gemma Bannon was replaced in the forwards by Amy Reid. The half forward line demonstrated how well they work together when Aoife Stapleton received a pass from Lauren Kelly she then gave off to Nash who finished off the play with a terrific goal. More scores followed from Monasterevan Kelly, Nash, Heavey and Claire Melia. Castlemitchell fought hard and played some good football at times and added more points to their tally but unfortunately on this occasion they came up against a well drilled Monasterevan team that took the points on the day.
