Murphy appointed Lilywhites under-21 manager

Kildare U21 manager Bryan Murphy
Former Kildare footballer Bryan Murphy is the county's new under-21 football manager.

Murphy guided the county to a Leinster minor title in 2013 and has now taken over the reins of the under-21 side.

Famed for scoring the winning goal in the 1998 Leinster final, Murphy has earned a decent reputation as a coach in the county, although his appointment was met with some reluctance from club delegates.

The County board put Murphy's ratification before delegates at their August meeting, but had not informed clubs beforehand that was going to be the case.

Club delegates felt that they needed more time to discuss the matter, but after a lengthy debate, it was decided to rubber stamp the appointment.
