Ladies Championship result Junior B Rd 4
Rheban ladies 0-12
Rathangan ladies 3-6
As the score suggests this game went all the way to the last kick. Rathangan started the stronger and played some excellent attacking football however they did not convert there dominance into scores.
The Rheban ladies soon got into their stride and put together some good passages of play. Both sides were guilty of missing easy opportunities and at halftime Rheban led by 0-6 to 1-2.
The 2nd half turned out to be an end to end shoot out with Rheban just about keeping their noses in front by a point or two. Late drama saw Rathangan awarded and miss a penalty, however this did not deter them and they scored 2-4 in a five minute spell that left Rheban shellshocked. The character of these Rheban ladies has been tested many times before and they responded by driving forward in numbers in an attempt to rescue the game, they scored 2 quick points to reduce the margin to three but with time running out rapidly they needed a goal.
The pressure was piled on the Rathangan defence but they held their nerve and in the process secured the victory.
Well done to both teams on what proved to be an entertaining and tough game of championship football........Report courtesy of Rheban pro Pierce Casey.
