July 22nd July @ 7-30pm

Round Towers Ladies hosted Rathangan Ladies in this 1st round encounter in St Brigid's Park on a sunny afternoon, This was a baptism of fire for this young Towers ladies team who for most was their 1st time venture into senior ladies football. Rathangan opened the scoring on the night in the 1st minute with a point , this was followed by a goal from the Towers kick out 30 seconds later , Towers found the back of the Rathangan net in the 6th minute scored by Sarah Duignan to open their account, But it was not long before the visitors resumed service with a point in the 8th minute followed with two more further points in the 11th minute to give them a 4 point lead. Towers worked hard and were rewarded with a point in the 12th minute by Megan Flanagan and another point ensued from the boot of Rachel Maloney in the 15th minute to cut the gap to 2 points. A Katie O Brien point in the 18th minute gave this young Towers team something to work for as now the deficit was 1 point , Rathangan upped the pace , as their vastly experienced team rounded of 4 points on the trot in the 19th , 20th , 22nd and 26th minutes as well as an additional goal in the 28th minute before the halftime break
Half Time: Round Towers 1-03 (6) to Rathangan 2-08 (14)

The second half started as the first half finished with Rathangan in the ascendency as they rattled off 2 points and 2 goals in quick succession the 1st a point , 2nd a goal , 4th a goal and 5th a point to make this match over as a contest. Towers Katie O Brien pointed in the 8th minute , as Rathangan added another point to their total in the 9th minute before Sarah Duignan pointed for towers in the 13th minute. Rathangan began another bout of scoring with 3 points in the 14th , 15th and 16th minutes. Leah Haze kept the Towers girls motivated as she pointed in the 16th minute , this gave the Towers girls encouragement as the closed the Rathangan ladies drive for the next 10 minutes , but the vast experience of Rathangan was clear as they found the Towers net 2 more times in the 26th and 28th minutes , Rathangan finished off with a point in the 30th minute and ran out victorious on the night. This score line could have been more telling only for the heroics of the Towers Keeper who threw herself at the ensuing onslaught at her goals, indeed every Towers lady accounted well for themselves under the circumstance and can gain valuable experience as this was a step up into Ladies senior football. Rathangan's vast experience and seasoned squad played the game as they only could at a high championship tempo.
