Lacey confident ahead of Westmeath clash

Kildare minor selector Brian Lacey believes that they have the work done ahead of their Leinster MFC opener against Westmeath.

In a repeat of last year's Leinster final which Kildare won, the sides do battle again, this time at Cusack Park, Mullingar on Saturday afternoon.

Kildare can call on ten of last year's squad for this clash and Lacey is confident that they can begin the defence of their title with a win.

"Things are going very well. We have ten or eleven from last year's minor panel but overall we have a good spread from last year from the under-16s and under-17s. We have about ten of Brendan's under-16s and under-17s," Lacey told the Leinster Leader.

"Those players have been involved with development squads the whole way up and there has been great work done with them and as a result they are making the step up quickly. A lot of the players have gelled together better because of that continuity."
