Jason Ryan has stressed that Kildare didn't treat their clash with Westmeath as a meaningless affair.
Despite being labelled a dead-rubber with both teams destined for Division 2 beforehand, the Lilywhites were well up for what could turn out to be a dress rehearsal for the Leinster SFC quarter-final as they cruised to a 17-point success.
"It's brilliant to get a win," the Kildare manager said.
"Today was a really pressurised day, maybe even more so than some of the other games in the league. There was an element of pride, it was a home game and you want to do well in your home games and there is potential to play Westmeath in the championship.
"On top of that, you don't want to lose six games in-a-row."
Yesterday's game proved to be Johnny Doyle's last in a Kildare jersey. The veteran forward, who came on for the last seven minutes, announced his inter-county retirement immediately afterwards.
