Kildare manager Cian O’Neill has summed up their campaign in one word, ‘disappointing’.
The Lilywhites’ interest in the qualifiers came to an end when Tyrone ran out comfortable winners at Newbridge last Saturday.
Looking back on the campaign as a whole, O’Neill stressed to the Leinster Leader that it was nowhere as good as it should have been.
“Disappointing, we didn’t play that well in the league yet we were one game away from being promoted; in the championship we end up getting beaten by the two teams in last year’s All-Ireland final, but we struggled early on against Wicklow and Longford,” said O’Neill.
“We just did not perform to the level we did in the latter part of last year and that’s disappointing, but you look at the lads in the stand, Paul Cribbin, Niall Kelly, Kevin Flynn, Fionn Dowling, Tony Archbold, no Daniel, that did not make it easy.”
On his own future, O’Neill stated that he has not thought about his position just yet.
“My mind was set solely on a recovery session tomorrow morning in preparation for next week but the guys died with their boots on; I just went to spend a bit of time with the lads, the management and the backroom team, that’s really where my head is at.”
