Longford manager Padraig Davis is focusing on the players that he has in the squad and not the players that are unavailable, ahead of their Leinster SFC quarterfinal against Kildare at O’Connor Park on Sunday.

Much has been made about the players unavailable to the Midlanders this year with a plethora of absentees including Darren Gallagher, Conor Berry, Robbie Smyth, Dessie Reynolds and Rian Brady all missing for a variety of reasons.

Throw in the fact that Diarmuid Masterson, Sean McCormack, Peter Foy and Barry Gilleran all retired at the end of last year and Longford will certainly have a new look side facing the Lilywhites.

And Davis has heaped praise on the players that are there telling the Longford Leader that they have put in huge work ahead of the game this weekend.

“We are very happy with how we are going,” said Davis. “The lads could not do any better to be fair to them.

“There is a great buzz around the place. We can’t really ask for anything more than that. They are giving us every last thing that they have.

“Sometimes when you are getting that sort of commitment, the results take care of themselves.”
