Kildare hurling manager David Herity says “there’s a different spirit” to the group than other teams he’s previously managed.

The former Kilkenny five-time All-Ireland winning goalkeeper was appointed Lilywhites boss in October and says he’s relishing the opportunity to guide an “extremely talented” outfit towards promotion to the Joe McDonagh Cup.

“I’m only a few weeks in, but from other teams I’ve been involved with there’s a different spirit to them,” he told the Irish Daily Star.

“They are a very driven group of young lads – extremely talented. It’s fantastic to be part of that, and to work with so many young lads that have the ambition to get to Croke Park and get up to the Joe McDonagh Cup.”

On current squad numbers, he added: “The uptake of lads coming in has been huge I am delighted to say. We’ve got it down to a panel of 30.”
