While not happy by his side's performances in the O'Byrne Cup, Kildare manager Cian O'Neill believes that they must look forward and take the positives from the early season competition.

Defeats to Louth and Longford ended the Lilywhites interest in the O'Byrne Cup and O'Neill was less than pleased with their performances in both games.

However, with the start of the NFL and a trip to Croke Park to face the Dubs just around the corner, the Kildare manager is keen to look forward and preparing for that opening game.

"We did get a lot out of both games from the terms of looking at new and younger players but now it's time to get the panel trimmed and really now to focus on the next two and a half to three weeks and the first match of the league," said O'Neill.

"That's where our attention changes to now, that where our focus is."
